Global Sport Institute x adidas
adidas partnered with the Global Sport Institute (GSI) at Arizona State University to identify the barriers to sport for women.
Together adidas and Global Sport Institute (GSI) examined how to overcome these barriers and explored what equality means for women, including opportunity, visibility, and pay. To do this, GSI helped adidas tap into existing and new, original research and worked with subject matter experts to drive change.
GSI at ASU is a research institute where diverse disciplines come together to thoughtfully examine critical issues impacting sport. Specialties range from engineering and sociology to the athletic department and beyond. GSI bridges the gap between academic research and real-life implications by translating findings into meaningful and actionable steps.
On January 22, GSI facilitated a workshop including ASU research experts, adidas’ Social Impact team, and its partners to explore the true barriers to sport for girls and the systemic challenges that limit their engagement. The primary barriers identified during that panel included education, relevant role models, access to sport, and cultural norms. On March 8, these partners will host panels in NYC and LA to identify how these insights can drive change for girls in sport.
