Soccer Balls Frequently Asked Questions

Size 1 is the smallest size soccer ball. Typically, they have a circumference of 18 to 20 inches (or a diameter of 5.73 to 6.36 inches). They're typically inflated between 8.5 and 15.6 PSI at sea level. A Size 1 soccer ball weighs about 7 oz, and is a great ball for young athletes under the age of 4. You may see these called "mini soccer balls", and they can also be used to work on footwork, ball control, or even as collectible souvenirs.
Size 3 soccer balls are great for junior players ages 7 or younger. Typically, they have a circumference of 23 to 24 inches. The required weight is between 11 and 12 oz.
Size 5 is the official size soccer balls for players ages 12 and older, all the way up to professional players. Pick up a size 5 soccer ball if you want the same ball used by MLS or FIFA. Typically, their circumference is between 27 to 28 inches. Official rules state the ball must weigh between 14 to 16 oz and be inflated to a pressure between 8.7 and 16.0 psi at sea level.
A futsal ball is the same size as a size 4 soccer ball but weighs more so it won't bounce as much on an indoor futsal court.
Match balls are typically made of higher quality materials (either leather or an approved synthetic) and are designed to follow regulations around size, weight, and inflated pressure. Match day soccer balls cost more than training balls.
