HOW TO LACE YOUR SHOES

Whether tightening up your head-to-toe look or dialing in your fit for your best court, pitch, field, diamond or on-street performance, discovering a shoe lacing pattern or system that's perfect for you can make all the difference.

TYPES OF LACING

From tying them loose to locking them down, there's countless ways to lace up and stand out. Check out the links below to find your style or create your own.

RUNNER'S LOOP LACING

A common lacing technique for trail and long-distance runners because it creates a super-tight fit that doesn't loosen while running on uneven surfaces or racking up the miles.

Step #1

Create an equal amount of shoelace on the left and right side of the bottom eyelet.

Step # 2

Take the left lace across to the next available right eyelet and the right lace across to the next left eyelet in a diagonal "X" pattern. Continue crisscrossing the laces until the top two eyelets.

Step #3

Before the final eyelets, take each lace directly up to the eyelet above on the same side of the shoe - threading from the outside-in to create a loop.

Step #4

Run the laces straight across and through the adjacent loop; pull tight to lock your heel as you tie the laces into a simple bow as you normally would.

STRAIGHT LACING

The definitive style to show off your fresh kicks. Also known as 'fashion lacing' or 'street lacing.'

Step #1

Start with an equal amount of lace on each side of the bottom eyelet.

Step #2

Take the left lace up the inside of the shoe through the second eyelet, then straight across.

Step #3

Take the right lace up the inside of the shoe through the third eyelet, then straight across.

Step #4

Repeat Steps 2 and 3, alternating between the right and left laces skipping eyelets and threading straight across until the pattern reaches the top of the shoe. Finish with a regular bow knot.
