What to Wear to a Music Festival: 6 Stylish Outfit Ideas

Become the star of the show with music festival inspiration that’ll make you stand apart. Turn heads with adidas essentials that make your style truly Original.

How would you describe your style? Are you a hardcore raver? Nostalgic for early 2000s pop punk? Whether you’re a dedicated hip hop head or a bohemian babe who goes with the flow, there’s a music festival ‘fit for you. Let your unique style come through as you explore 6 unique looks that will help you decide what to wear to a music festival — because when you’re looking through photos from the festival weekend, you’ll want to have looked as good as you felt.

6 Looks that Steal the Show

We tapped stylist Amelia Johnson for festival outfit ideas that shine by curating a variety of authentic, distinct looks that would be perfect for a music festival, all accented with the freshest shoes and apparel that adidas has to offer.

Cowboy Chic

It’s a Western wrangler’s weekend, and we’re just living in it. Whether you’ve got spurs or Sambas on your feet, it’s time to take to the soundstage in style. Johnson styled this look for a warm day in clear weather, pairing iconic Sambas with eye catching cow print pants that redefine the term “workwear”. A classic adidas tank top is worn tucked in to accentuate the clean silhouette, and a neutral colored adidas mesh hat ties the look together. This look is subtle at first glance, while understated adidas staples punch up the details in a way that can’t be denied. Perfect for a country music festival, this outfit will keep the compliments coming until the cows come home.

Notes From the Stylist: “Initially I was thinking, ‘How do we make this not feel like a costume?’ Usually in Western wear, I’d stay true to a chambray or a classic boot. In the end we kept the look pretty clean with casual adidas statement pieces, and that made it all come together nicely.”

Rave Warrior

Light up the dance floor with a look that makes LEDs look like tea candles. While color is often the star of the show for rave attire, comfort also comes in clutch when your dance party starts to resemble a marathon. For this look, Johnson brought in all the neon and pulled out all the stops. Layered fabrics and stretchy materials set the Rave Warrior apart, while shiny adidas track pants send this look into outer space. Complete with stylish accessories and built on top of a bright, decorated pair of Gazelle Bold sneakers that complete the look, so you can take every step in style.

Notes From the Stylist: “She’s coming to dance. Incorporating active wear into this looks was seamless because it’s made for movement. I wanted to layer fabrics and colors to elevate the look without staying in one realm of neon. The adidas pants were reflective, which was amazing to bring in a little more Rave Warrior in the best way.”

Boho Glow

Find your nearest sun-drenched field and frolic to your heart’s content in this sporty-meets-hippie ‘fit. It’s all about vibes in this effortless look, and they’re at an all-time high thanks to the tulle skirt, classic adidas jersey, and oversized belt. All built on top of a classic pair of Sambas and adorned with accessories that add a touch of luxury, all you need is a flower crown to turn this hazy dream into reality.

Notes From the Stylist: “When I think about bohemian, it’s pretty effortless, but there’s a lot involved. It is a bit more neutral and femme, and the natural pieces and accessories really work with it. Her style is part modern gal, part tradition of earth. We wanted to stay fluid with this look, and the movement of dancing at a festival is where it all comes to life.”

Hip Hop Hooray

Let’s take it back to the classics. The golden era of hip hop is getting respect from a whole new generation, and we’re here for it. Oversized silhouettes are always effortlessly cool, while iconic accessories like bucket hats and tasteful jewelry add a sense of timelessness that has been proven to stick around. adidas cargo pants paired with heels? Please. The ‘90s may be back, but good style never went anywhere.

Notes From the Stylist: “I think we really stayed true to the golden era and culture of hip hop. We pushed the envelope with the oversized silhouette, statement jewelry, and shoe options. I wanted this look to be more of a statement. The culture of hip hop and the statements made in hip hop really go hand in hand with what adidas has been doing. Culturally pushing the boundary, you know?”

Scene Star

It’s not a phase, Mom! This alt look goes center stage in an effortlessly cool adidas jersey, paired with a classically 2000s pair of oversized shorts. Sporting a pair of eye-catching Sambas and adorned with — yes, you saw that right — a chain wallet, this look is at home in the mosh pit as well as the shopping mall.

Notes From the Stylist: “We really tried to stay true to what represents the genre in the best way. Punk is defiant, but it’s also practical. I wanted to maintain an interesting silhouette while using these monochromatic adidas racing-style jerseys. The emo and punk scenes feel so customizable with their looks, and I think that’s where it aligns best with adidas. Pairing with something unexpected.”

Shuffle King

Rock with the randomizer in an outfit ready for any and every festival scene. The pairing of a vibrant sweater vest and essential adidas shorts? Say no more. The addition of the adidas Masterpiece hat, decorated bag, and pearl accented Sambas really take this look from versatile to king of style, no matter what stage it’s in front of.

Notes From the Stylist: “This look was a joy to put together because there were no rules. It stands on its own in its own genre, but it also brings together a little bit of all of them. It’s for the person who’s happy to be there.”

Encore

The festival scene is always changing, but what you wear to these shows will always be essential for a positive experience. While it is fun to dress up and show off your style, it’s also a great idea to prioritize comfort. Nobody wants to be stuck in an outdoor concert all day in clothing that doesn’t serve them. Trust in adidas for gear that performs well in every environment, while allowing you to express your enthusiasm in style.

“Stay true to your personal style, whether or not that’s gender or genre specific,” said Johnson. “I think it’s mostly playing off that, because you could be into three different styles all at once. But if what you’re wearing at the music festival is making you happy, that’s what you should be choosing to wear.”

We hope that this styling guide gets you inspired to put together your best festival outfit yet. No matter what type of show you’ll be seeing next, we can’t wait to see your style take front and center. For more like this, check out how to style a tennis skirt or how to style a jersey
