HOLIDAY SHOPPING AS AN EXERCISE

‘Tis the season to shop! While you’re out loading up on stocking stuffers, presents, and holiday treats, you can also give yourself the gift of better health. It’s as simple as adding more steps to your shopping trips. Here’s how.

1. Find a spot far away.

With the holiday shopping season in full swing, it’s unlikely you’ll find a spot close to the door. Instead of driving in circles trying to park closer, select a spot far away. You’ll waste less time looking for a spot, plus you’ll add steps walking to and from the front door.

2. Head to a big mall.

The bigger the mall, the better the workout. Even if you only need to go to one or two stores, walk the entire mall. A little bit of window shopping and taking in the seasonal storefronts will keep you so occupied, you won’t even realize how much you’re walking. Boys, we’re sure you can cope with doing this too!

4. Pick up the pace.

Amp up the intensity by walking quickly between stores. You’ll get your heart rate pumping and optimize your time in the mall.

5. Take the stairs.

Forget the elevators and escalators, take the stairs. It’ll get your legs and heart rate working. Bonus: Your shopping bags will add a little extra intensity.
