First off, this is a great retro release. It's very accurate to the original and it's made with high quality leather. However, there's one thing about the US release that disappointed me. The style pictured in the Stan Smith Returns ads and marketing is actually the UK/international "vintage" release, which is even closer to the original than this modified US version. It also used higher quality materials. I'm a bit disappointed that adidas advertised one model in the US, then released something completely different. Other than that, they are classic and comfortable.
I remember the young salesman in the Wilshire store so may pairs ago looking at me sincerely and exclaiming: "You know, these aren't good for anything anymore!" I guess he was right, they aren't for running, or sprinting, fencing, soccer, or even competitive tennis anymore. They are extremely comfortable, true to size, great for walking around and are acceptable casual shoes where other sports shoes might be frowned on. Stan Smiths have classic style and comfort. I guess that still makes them good for something.
I was lucky enough to purchase the OTHER Stan Smith floating around out there, the classic one with the stitched tongue and higher-quality materials all the way around. And I will say that it is an amazing shoe, classic style, incredibly comfortable, and simply beautiful on foot. If you can get your hands on the stitched-tongue style as opposed to the padded tongue you will not be disappointed. In a side-by-side comparison, the padded-tongue style available in the US just feels cheaper and a lower quality.
good points= compared to stan smith 80s that came out in 2011 the tongue does'nt squeak anymore when you walk, which was really annoying. High quality leather and sole. Better quality laces than stan smith 2. Bad points= Still got the transfer style adidas logo on the heel badge, that you know is going to peel off like the stan smith 80s from 2011. Heel badge made made out of faded green suede,I prefer the original hard wearing style like the stan smith 2. You still have to buy half a size bigger than you really are, which can a bit of guess work when your buying online.
The shoes itself are very clean. The material has kind of a smooth, buttery feel to it & the 3M makes the kicks pop out even more. The only thing that I found confusing for myself & could be confusing for others in the future would be the sizing. I usually wear a 7 in mens and the shoes are a shoe for womens so I ordered an 8 in womens, I tried them on and they were half a size larger. I would recommend to order half a size smaller than what you would usually wear in womens.
There comes a time in each life when you realize that trendy means classic. That's what we have in this shoe both in style and utility. The shoe looks great from every angle. Even judging against my previous Addidas shoes, this one is the most comfortable for every day wear. The sole grips well and shields you from all those pebbles or other inconsistencies you may encounter on the street or in the mall. The arch is supportive and there is very little movement of the shoe while on your foot. The fit and trim are excellent. Complaint - only one, and it's terribly minor. The tongue could be a little wider at the ankle, but at least the tongue is of a thickness that is appropriate, unlike others I have worn.
Some problems make them close but no cigar when compared with the made in France vintage version. The white is not white enough being more of a greyish white. The heel badge is made of cheap looking suede instead of the strong color leather of the originals. But the worst for me is that the front of shoe feels bulkier than the originals and less elegant. See photos for vintage Stan Smith.
I would recommend ordering a 1/2 size down. These shoes are definitely the cleanest pair I own! They are my everyday use shoes. They look better the more you wear them, and they also get more and more comfortable as time goes on. To break them in, I'd recommend using a hair dryer on them and then just wear them around the house. Like I say, even though it's a white shoe, getting them dirty just gives them that character. Also if you decide ordering them true to your size, put an extra pair of insoles in there or something that will do the trick!
Love the all black versions of these classic trainer. Totally understated design with all black soul which i like as I'm not a jazzy logo type of person so this style with the three stripes being just perforated holes are perfect and work with a smart outfit aswell as just casual wear. And the best thing. They last for years. My only gripe is after buying one pair of asides footwear previously, learnt that all sizes are a whole one size two small. So normally I'd be 10.5 so bought 11.5 size and they are perfect. You may want to keep that in mind....
My son will only wear sports shoes. I got him the velcro Stan Smith because I love their classic look and because they're very easy to put on. It turns out he loves them as much as I do, not only for their look but also because they're super comfy! He won't wear any other sport shoes now! In short, this was a fantastic purchase.
Well designed, minimal branding. About the quality you should expect. Who needs the high end/high price version when you can have the real deal? If I could make one change, it would be a suede heel tab as opposed to leather. That's it. I swear I saw a version like that but I guess you can't always have it all. I wear a size 8.5 boat shoe (barefoot, tight when wearing socks), bought these in a 9 and they fit well in socks (MAYBE could have gone half a size down for better fit in toe but it's close).
I bought my first pair of Stan Smith's in 1985 and have worn at least one pair each year since then. There were times when it became very difficult to purchase. Fortunately the internet made it much easier. For me, the simple white shoe with the green heel never goes out of style. Thank you adidas.
These shoes fit perfect, are super comfortable and look great with anything from jeans to shorts. I did think that they might be a tad more breathable given the knit design but overall am super happy with this purchase.
Just got these bad boys this week for my summer Stans. These are a little dressier and more stylish than typical old school sneaks, so you can wear them with a nice pair of chinos or a structured pair of shorts. The inside feels a little different than my winter Stans, almost like it was designed with the intention to be worn without sock. These shoes are great and I love how Adidas is expanding the Stan line up with a fun and versatile selection of styles.
My 13 year old son is a self professed "sneakerhead" and I've told him than none of these latest crazes in sneakers can compare to my favorite shoe, the Stan Smith, from when I was his age. Fortunately he IS a "sneakerhead" and that's why he saw that the Stan Smith was back and excitedly let me know. He couldn't believe it when I quickly fired off an order for 2 pairs of size 13s. He isn't a convert yet, but he has trouble taking his eyes off them when I wear them. Thanks for bringing them back to this old dude!
