Rated 3 out of 5Â by Chazzle Classic Court Shoe Has Achilles Heel
I've worn Rod Lavers for years. A classic court shoe with minimalist style. I can however, only offer a qualified recommendation. The uppers have always been durable, if hard to keep clean, but the quality of the soles has declined as production of the shoe has moved from Slovenia to China. The sole is now made of what appears to be a plasticized rubber. This material has less flexibility than the rubber of old, with the consequence that the soles now split after a little more than one season of use. I've brought this problem to Adidas' attention, but it has yet to be resolved. I only purchased a replacement pair because I got them for a price well below retail. I can only recommend this shoe if you are able do the same, or if style is more important than durability.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Happy A great shoe
I recently purchased a pair of Rod Laver Mesh Tennis Shoes on the adidas website. The shoes were delivered fast and theyâre a perfect fit. I found the shoes to be very comfortable and they look great. Although I bought the shoes for tennis, I plan to use them for casual wear because of their outstanding appearance. The only negative are the shoestrings. I found that they fail to hold a tight, snug fit; however, given the great price I paid for the shoes, I can easily afford to buy new ones. I highly recommend these shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Faceme Great Everyday Shoe
This is a very comfortable shoe. It provides an excellent arch support especially for anyone that has a high arch within their foot. It prrovides solid cushioning at every point of the foot. The mesh material allows for great aerations within the shoe.
It is an excellent choice for everyday use, long walks, and of course excellent on the tennis court. It does fit a little snug for my slightly wide foot but overall still very comfortable. I love the subtle retro style and this shoe easily fits many styles of clothing. Overall a great shoe and I can certainly understand why Adidas has kept this shoe on the market so long.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Ath.ns Hacky game changer
After destroying a pair of perfectly good Lugz Zrocs playing hacky sack, I decided it was time to get some dedicated footbag shoes.
Original plan was to go cheap and sturdy, but someone out on the internets testified that they had been surprised how much of a difference it made playing with Rod Lavers. I took their word...
and these make a ridiculously huge difference. There's almost no comparison to what I was using. It's like playing a totally different game now.
I can't say that there isn't some cheaper alternative out there that's passable... but I can say that for $60 these certainly don't leave more to be desired. (except maybe a larger color selection...)

Rated 5 out of 5Â by tcpilot STILL a classic!
I grew up wearing these shoes on court, through the early portion of a 16-year competitive tennis career. I found these again only recently, and it's a treat to return to an iconic product that hasn't changed. The styling is timeless, and once through the (short) break-in period, they're as comfortable as I remember. You may find better technology in a shoe now, but these will remind you why they ruled the court through the late 70's and early 80's. Best of all, they look just as at home in the mall, on campus, or kicking around during the weekend.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by bulletproofleg love them but they have changed for the worse
I used to love these shoes and I always had a pair in my closet. The last time I bought a pair was in 2002 and since then they have changed the quality of the sole. Now instead of a green rubber sole, they are now a plastic sole that is painted green. The green paint reportedly tends to rub off and shortens the life of these shoes. Why did they have to go and ruin a good thing?

these shoes are excellent for anyone who likes comfort and the ability to rip up a hacky sack or footbag... they have a great flat outer toe surface for those stalls and they don't have excessive padding (so you have better feeling of where your shoe ends) better for control.... this is the shoes most of the pros use... and they fit like they should

Rated 5 out of 5Â by GilXabi THE standard in classic tennis shoes
On 8/14/10 I was married to my longtime girlfriend. Both of us, and the entire groomsman side of the wedding, wore classic Rod Lavers in Navy and white. Beyond being handsome on the gents and incredibly cute on my bride, they're dynamic on a dancefloor. This is the 3rd wedding in my family that the lavers have been worn by the groomsmen. Now, friends of ours in town have caught on and are doing the same. Its becoming quite a tradition around here... We don't call them 'Lavers' - we call them 'Groomers'.

Look nice, comfortable and will hopefully work for my workout riding an exercise bike in my works wellness center. Which has a special "rubber tile" floor. One thing that shocked me was when I tried them on at the store I about slipped and fell. They are very slick on carpet for some reason but on hard floors have good traction. If you're wearing around the house on carpet be careful.
I got these especially to match my Adidas track suit; the white with navy trim matches perfect the Clima365 navy track suit.

Hello good people at Adidas,
I absolutely adore my Rod Laver Adidas. As a guy in my 30's I really shouldn't be wearing sneakers with all of the crazy bells and whistles as many sneakers have these days. A nice casual, comfortable and meli shoe works for me. These are not for working out in, they are for strolling along the promenade, boardwalk or seaport. I will enjoy them for the summer. The only question left is; should I get the green/white ones too???
:-)
Thank you Adidas...

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Head Elf A real classic
All the men in my family wear these shoes. The classic style, white w/ green trim, is not easy to find anymore but the only acceptable version of the shoe in our clan. They are true to size, comfortable and never go out of style. It all started with my father, a long time tennis player, that wore only the Rod Lavers. Then, my brothers got in on the act - although neither took up tennis seriously, and now my son and nephews all wear them. DO NOT STOP MAKING THIS STYLE. My family will be without footwear and identity.

Rated 5 out of 5 AWESOME FOOTWEAR
I own 4 pairs of these shoes in 3 different colors. They have become my everyday shoe.
They are supportive and breath incredibly well. I highly recommend giving these kicks a shot!
The ONLY downside is that they are very hard to keep white. Once they begin collecting dirt, it's a sharp turn to the greyscale.

I used to wear these back in the 70's when I played on the tennis team in middle and high school; must have gone through five or six pairs back then. Loved them for tennis; love them even more now. Very comfortable, nostalgic, and casual/stylish. Not using them for tennis, although they seem to offer a lot of support, but a great all-around everyday athletic shoe.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Laver Lover My all-time favorite shoe, on-court and off
I got my first pair of these back when I was 13 years old (in the mid 70's) and wore them all through high school tennis. I'm a toe-dragger and would burn through the front of a set of shoes in no time. Rod Lavers were the only shoes that would last any amount of time on the hard court. Inevitably I'd wear the Lavers out as well but they were the most durable of all the shoes. Tip for toe draggers: Once you've burned a hole in the toe, you can extend the life of the shoe by cutting a tennis ball in half and using Shoe Goo to glue the half tennis ball onto the toe cap. I've gotten several years of life out of a pair by replacing the tennis ball occasionally.
When I recently returned to playing tennis after 25 years away from the game and went to buy some shoes I jokingly asked the store clerk where the Rod Lavers were (thinking they'd been gone for years) but he said "Right over there". I was thrilled to find Adidas had brought them back. Lavers cost about half of what current tennis shoes cost, so you can pick up two pairs of Lavers for what you'd expect to pay for one pair of modern court shoes - wear one pair for the court and one for casual wear. If you're going to use these to play tennis (particularly on hard court) I'd advise getting a good set of shock absorbing insoles and maybe getting a half size larger shoe to make sure you've got toe clearance from the front of the shoe.
These shoes can be pretty slippery on carpet when they're brand new so you need to get the sole roughened up a bit before wearing them indoors.
Now Adidas has introduced a bunch of cool new variants of the Lavers (Summer, Winter, etc.). I'm going to be wearing Lavers all the time now.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Sweet Papa Chicken Best shoe for streetdance and everyday wear!
I have been wearing Rod Lavers for years and have been dancing in them for just as long. Rod Lavers are hands down the most comfortable, lightweight, durable and useful shoes I have ever had the pleasure to own. You might however, have to buy a pair in one or two sizes bigger because they run in unique European sizes that are smaller than regular American standard sizes. But once you find your correct fit, they will feel incredibly impeccable to wear. What I feel is so amazing about these shoes is that they have been around for decades and Adidas never changed the formula even with all the advancements in technology that has came and passed time after time. These shoes were decades ago and still today, way ahead of their time by every means. I am a street dancer who has for years, danced among the best of the best dancers in the world. Having great useful shoes are some of the most important tools that a dancer might need in order to perfect their craft. Rod Lavers are perfect for floor gliding, spins, shuffling/footwork, tip-toeing, and dynamic air moves because of their lightweight structure, extreme durability, and awesome ability to glide across smooth floors. Rod Lavers are also the most perfect wearing shoes for either work or just wearing all day for what ever you do. I have been obsessed with this shoe and owned just about every kind of style and color that Adidas has made of this particular model. I however, thought that it was totally ridiculous when Adidas had released this same particular model with the heavy rubber outsoles which made the shoe heavy, clunky and useless. I am so glad that Adidas went back to their original formula with their only one of a kind in the world PU outsoles that signifies the shoe besides the overall style that makes this shoe unique unlike no other. I love when Adidas releases other kinds of shoe models with the same type of PU outsloe material formulas that the Rod Lavers are made of. Many other shoe companies have and still today, try to copy the the Rod Laver for it's unique and simple style but none will ever match the "ORIGINAL" formula that Adidas has created. I hope in the near future that Adidas will release the Rod Laver on the mi Adidas site for total customization. I've been on a campaign for a long time asking Adidas to include the Rod Laver in the mi Adidas line and they have yet to consider my request. Perhaps if enough customers including Adidas themselves read my review, then perhaps everybody else might want to campaign and request the Rod Laver to be released and included in the mi Adidas line. I know for certain that it would go over huge if it was released in the mi Adidas line because it is one of the most popular shoe models that Adidas has ever released and I know that I'm not alone in knowing that. So come on Adidas what are you waiting for? In all, I am so glad that Adidas has never discontinued the Rod Laver because this shoe has a true original and unique purpose that signifies Adidas with the world.

The heel area of the Rod Laver sneakers lower than almost every tennis sneaker on the market and is very comfortable and helped overcome an Achilles tendon problem. The fit is nice, but a little narrow. Just a little. I wear mines with a white colored-strip polo, or a logo t-shirt with a pair of shorts. What I really like is the subtle green and the little bit of tan colored suede at the tip. In my opinion they are two very casual hues for spring and summer.
