Great shoes, the speed lace system is impossible to find in ANY stores if you have to replace it. You have to contact the company that makes the shoes for Adidas. This company is AGRON and the number is 1-800-966-7697. They were very good to work with and sent a replacement lace system out free of charge.
I just completed my thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. I purchased the Terrex Fast X as a replacement shoe in Daleville, VA and finished my journey with them on Mt Katahdin. Great shoe excellent grip on rocks and dry quickly after becoming wet. I would highly recommend this shoe. I will be wearing them on the PCT next summer. Toasted Toad
Out of the box, the quality is apparent. I discovered they are sized a whole size too big....the shoes for technical running should be fitted in the heel and mid-foot while comfortable with no friction. Once I found the right size, I tested them on a swift 12 mile run in the mountains and was surprised at the flexible feel and suppleness of an otherwise beefy shoe. The forefoot mesh flexes laterally across the top of the foot....giving that extra width when stepping down and springing back to a snug fit when the foot is relaxed. Perhaps they could still make a couple millimeters of width in the toe box. My feet are a standard width. The grip of the sole truly couldn't be better. A++. I could literally step anywhere in a pinch based on the demands of a fast technical downhill and the shoe stuck until my foot lifted off the surface. Perhaps Continental should make climbing shoes. The sole otherwise is surprisingly springy and I feel an energy return from what seemed to be a stiffer and comparatively "heavy" shoe. (10oz) I would recommend these over Solomon, LaSportiva or any of the other True Mountain running shoe. The speed laces stay put. Adidas makes a high quality and thought out product. Absolutely the best hiking shoe I ever owned. Came from the Merrel brand, needed something less sneaker like, but not a full blown hiking shoe with all the clunkyness. This thing feels perfect the minute you put in on, no breaking in necessary. Good job Adidas!
I am a carpenter and occasional hiker. Got these because they felt real good in the REI store and they looked very cool too ( got the dk green/black), go great with my camo and army green stuff! The more I wear them the more I like them, they fit perfect (I am an 11-1/2 D and that's what I got and they fit! Great support, but feel very light! I reach for them in my closet, amongst many other high end boots, they are currently my favorites. The lacing system is very nice, they cinch up evenly with pretty much one pull, and they loosen up for removal very easily too, this is a feature that you appreciate a few days after you purchase these! Great hiking shoes, I hope they never change them, I'm buying another pair right away!!
I purchased these shoes after having a entry level trail shoe made by Adidas. Loved the previous shoe, it preformed flawlessly. Only drawback to the shoes is they run narrow in the toe box. I bought them for work. I am a garbage man. I have had them all. Danner, Columbia, Timberland, ect. $250 boots that last 6 months and fail at being waterproof almost instantly. This shoe has a toe guard and Gore-Tex. I wore the soles off the previous shoes without my feet ever getting wet. This shoe is pretty stiff, with great support. I love the true orthotic insole, it helps me fight fatigue since I am on my feet for 7 hours.
The shoe is light but feels rugged. The construction is really good, so I doubt it'll come apart any time soon. (I've worn it for a few weeks now, and so far no sign of wear on it.) It doesn't have the type of cushioning you get from running shoes, but it's not supposed to. It's great for it's primary purpose, which is as a hiking shoe. (Don't use it for sports or training at the gym.) As for fit, the length of the shoe was just right for me. The width is slightly on the wide side, but that's better than being slightly on the narrow side. My feet are not too wide, though, so maybe the width is fine for the average person.
I love this shoe. I work on my feet all day as well as hike around the trails near my house and this shoe is incredible. I commute by bike in the PNW and my feet have never gotten wet in the rain. Super comfortable. They don't breathe as well as a regular sneaker, but the antimicrobial treatment to the insoles works wonders and they never smell. The reason I', giving four stars instead of 5 is because the laces broke on the first hike. I tied a knot in them and they lasted a little while and broke again. Only on one shoe. They've lasted with two knots in them for a good while now and don't hinder the performance, so I still think they are absolutely great.
I am a track coach at a New England high school. I needed a sleek, comfortable outdoor shoe that can stand up to early spring weather. The Terra Fast has performed better than expected. It even allows me to perform the occasional demonstration of hurdling and triple jumping technique.
I got this shoe for something to wear in the Fall/Winter weather. One of the best features of the shoe is the styling. There is a lot going on with the design but it manages to stay subtle enough that you can wear it with pretty much anything, but still has a few color highlights with the red and yellow to stand out. Overall the fit is roomy. I would recommend your usual size or a 1/2 size down for this model. The width is standard and the forefoot is spacious. Overall the fit is comfortable. It is well padded around the ankle and tongue. It has pretty deep studs for traction but still feels like a regular shoe when walking on flat surface. The Ortholite insoles make a little noise in the heel when stepping down but it may be because they are brand new. Overall I would recommend these shoes if you are looking for a stylish outdoor shoe with great traction.
