CREATING "MY ADIDAS"

In 1986, Run-DMC released the groundbreaking hip hop classic “My adidas”, a tribute to the adidas Superstar. Known for wearing their street clothes on stage, the members of the group wore the sport-designed shoes with fat laces or no laces, and with the tongue pushed out. The song was the first endorsement of a brand by a music artist. No checks were signed. No managers approached. No media plan developed. It was conceived out of a pure love of the brand and the lyrics said it all: “I wear my adidas when I rock the beat”. Join Russell Simmons and DMC as they talk about the creation of the track.
