2004 Starting the 2004 season in his trademark match-winning form, Nathan was sidelined by a hamstring injury for several matches mid-season. Despite being hampered by the injury for the remainder of the year, Buckley still managed to figure amongst Collingwood's best each week.
Adding to his long list of career highlights, in 2004 Nathan was honoured with a Life Membership to the Collingwood Football Club.
2003 Individually, 2003 was one of Nathan's best seasons evidenced by a long list of accolades. These have included the coveted Brownlow Medal and the Magpies Best & Fairest, The Copeland Trophy which he received for the 6th time. Nathan also led his beloved team to a second straight AFL Grand Final birth in which the Magpies were unfortunately defeated by Brisbane. As a testament to both his on field brilliance and leadership skills, Nathan was also named Vice Captain of the All Australian Team in 2003. This marked his 7th representation in the team and 3rd as Vice Captain.
